Hi! How is your ______ going?
Yes, I
left the blank for you. Please, fill in the blank with an appropriate word.
You are right, you can fill either 'study' or 'preparation'.
There can be another word too, think of it!
This is what we do when we fill in the blanks. However, they are quite
difficult in the examination. Fill in the blanks are asked in English
Comprehension tests in various competitive exams such as banking, insurance,
SSC, railways, MBA, board exams. etc. You need to fill in the blanks with an
appropriate option. The option can be anything from vocabulary to grammar such
as article, preposition, SVA, tenses, synonyms, antonyms, idioms, phrases, etc.
How to score maximum in “Fill In The Blanks”
* We should carefully read the given sentence to
understand the structure and crux of the sentence. If possible or time allows,
read the sentence twice.
* Try to answer without looking at the options
or note down the word that comes into your mind. Look for a suitable
alternative of your answer in the options. Then, fill the correct option.
* After selecting the correct option, read the complete
sentence again, just to make sure it makes sense. If not, replace your
answer with more suitable option.
* Sometimes we can use hit and trial when we get
struck between more than one options. In such case,
place both the options one by one and check which one makes more
sensible sentence both grammatically and logically.
* Elimination method also works well when we
find other options irrelevant except one. In such case, put the one option in
the blank and re-read the sentence to make sure the answer/option makes sense.
