How to Prepare Active and Passive Voice for SSC, Bank, Railway, and Other Exams

Active and passive voice are asked in English comprehension tests, in various competitive exams such as SSC, Bank, Railways, Teaching, NDA, MBA, etc. Out of four alternatives, you need to select one which best expresses the same sentence in passive or active. Knowledge of active/passive voice doesn’t only help you to score better in the English comprehension test, but you will also be considered to have a good level of English.

How to score maximum in Active/Passive Voice

* Read the sentence carefully. Find out its subject and object. Half of your work is done.
* Now, look at the tense used in the sentence. Another half of your work is done if you know how to make changes in the tenses.
* There are many rules to change active into passive and vice-versa. You can refer to our detailed teacher's notes on Active/Passive voice.

* Look at the following rules, how tenses change in active/passive voice. You must have these rules on fingertips-

Present Tense

Simple Present

Sub. + V1 + Obj.

Obj. + is/am/are + V3 + by +Sub

Present Continuous

Sub. + is/am/are + V(-ing) + Obj.

Obj. + is/am/are + being + V3 + by + Sub.

Present Perfect

Sub. + has/have + V3 + Obj.

Obj. + has/have + been + V3 + by + Sub.

Past Tense

Simple Past

Sub. + V2 + Obj.

Obj. + was/were + V3 + by + Sub.

Past Continuous

Sub. + was/were + V(-ing) + Obj.

Obj. + was/were + being + V3 + by + Sub.

Past Perfect

Sub. + had + V3 + Obj.

Obj. + had + been + V3 + by + Sub.

Future Tense

Simple Future

Sub. + shall/will + V1 + Obj.

Obj. + shall/will + be + V3 + by + Sub.

Future Continuous

Sub. + shall/will + be + V(-ing) + Obj.

Passive voice not possible

Future Perfect

Sub. + shall/will + have + V3 + Obj.

Obj. + shall/will + have + been + V3 + by + Sub.


Notes: 

* No need to spend much time on a particular question, if it is taking time. Move to the next question and review it in the end if time allows.
* Remain calm during the test.
