How to Prepare Idioms & Phrases for SSC, Bank, Railway, and Other Exams

In idioms, the meaning of words actually differ from the meaning words in dictionary. Don’t get confuse with proverbs, they are just sayings based on practical experience/common sense. Idioms are phrases or combination of words that have figurative meaning and are generally well known. They can’t be comprehended by the individual meaning of the words. 
For example- Penny for your thought
Meaning- asking someone’s thought, what he or she thinks about something.

Idioms & Phrases are asked in English Comprehension tests in various competitive exams such as banking, insurance, SSC, railways, MBA, board exams. Etc. Questions are MCQ based and you need to choose one correct option out of four options.

How to score maximum in Idioms & Phrases

* If possible, look for the origin of idioms and phrases. Most of them have fantastic origin stories. The stories will not let you forget the meaning and context of the idioms/phrases.
* Try to understand the context in which the idioms or phrases are used. They are situational, we can’t you them everywhere. Link or visualize them with your situations so that they can easily be understood and remembered for a longer period of time.
* Try not to cram idioms & phrases. Instead, group them or categorize them based on different themes and contexts. Grouping will also help you to use these idioms and phrases in day to day life.
* Try to make list of them. I know, it’s a tough task, but whenever you come across with any new idioms or phrases, jut note it down its meaning and context. You can use your smartphones to make a list of idioms/phrases. It’ll definitely help you during revision before your exams.

Notes:-

*No need to spend much time on a particular question, if it is taking time. Move to the next question and review it in the end if time allows.
* Remain calm during the test.
* Go through a standard grammar book of your choice to learn different idioms and phrases. OR, refer to our teacher's notes.
* Make a habit of reading. Read articles/newspapers/novels etc. It’ll help you learn new idioms/phrases with different themes/contexts.
* Attempt our free practice tests. They are based on questions asked in previous exams. They will help you practice different types of 'idioms and phrases' for different contexts.

    I was looking for such kind of website for so long, but couldn't get so.
    One of the best thing is to get the scores at the same time, which is a kind of self reflection for me.
